On Saturday night Monica and I and our friends, Sarah and Chris (and Dan) went out to see Burning Away the Winter Blues, a wild outdoor theatrical/processional/ritual campfire event put on in Whitehorse for the last nine years by Yukon theatre director/teacher Arlin McFarlane.
There is a procession, costumes, drummmers, dancers and effigies and it all ends up near the Yukon River with a giant bonfire (like 60 feet long) with dozens of people chanting "Burn it, burn it, burn it..." and then they sacrifice the effigy, which represents depression and angst and boredom and cold and well, whatever you want it to, on the fire.
